Mango’s Legacy – Let’s Make It Matter

A Heartbreaking Rescue: Mango’s Story  (05-05-2025)

Today, we were faced with one of the most harrowing cases of animal cruelty we’ve ever encountered.

Leighanne Parvez was alerted to a young kitten in urgent need of help. Reports suggested that the kitten had been subjected to horrific abuse—allegedly thrown back and forth through a second-storey window by children and then left to suffer alone in a freezing bedroom.

Leighanne acted immediately, collecting the kitten and bringing him to us. We contacted the RSPCA straight away, and they are now involved in the case.

This tiny kitten, only around five weeks old, arrived in critical condition:

  • Completely unresponsive

  • Ice cold to the touch

  • Suffering from severe urine burns on his back legs and bottom, likely from lying in his own waste for an extended period

The level of suffering this kitten endured is beyond comprehension. It is clear he received no care, comfort, or kindness—until now.

A qualified veterinary nurse kindly stepped in to help administer fluids while we awaited the RSPCA. Sadly, despite every effort, Mango’s injuries were too severe. He was in deep shock and barely clinging to life.

We named him Mango, and in just a few short hours, he was finally shown the love and compassion he had been denied his entire life. He mattered. He was seen. He was cherished.

We hoped those responsible—both the children and the adult who allowed this to happen—would be held fully accountable. No one who allows such cruelty should ever be permitted to keep animals again.

Rescue work is never easy, but today has been one of the most emotionally devastating days we’ve experienced. Our hearts are broken.

If Mango’s story doesn’t illustrate the dangers of giving kittens away for free on social media, we don’t know what will. Vulnerable animals deserve protection—not to be handed over to households where cruelty can thrive.

Update:
We have now received a report from the RSPCA. Tragically, Mango was put to sleep due to the extent of his injuries. He had a broken jaw, severe brain damage, and was in a coma—along with other internal trauma. There was simply no chance of recovery.

In our opinion, this kitten was murdered by the very family who were meant to love and protect him.

We will continue to fight for justice—for Mango, and for every innocent animal who suffers at the hands of cruelty and neglect.

Mango’s Legacy

The rescuers involved in this case witnessed the very worst of humanity through the tragic, senseless loss of little Mango — a tiny, innocent life taken too soon and without reason.
Since then, we’ve been thinking deeply about how we stop this from happening again.
While we can’t force people to neuter their cats — and there’s no law that requires it — maybe we can do something that does make a difference.
Our facebook posts about Mango, along with the powerful reel Leighanne Parvez created, have reached over 100,000 people — and that doesn’t even count all the shares or the news coverage that followed.
Imagine if every person who read Mango’s story donated just £1. With that, Stray Safe would have enough funds to help hundreds of cats across Manchester.
That could mean:
Fewer unwanted kittens born just to be handed out to unsuitable homes.
Fewer cats suffering, dumped, or left to fend for themselves.
Fewer heartbreaking stories like Mango’s.

We want Mango’s Legacy to be shared far and wide
We can’t undo what’s happened, but we can stop it happening again. Please don’t let Mango’s death be in vain.

If you can’t donate, please share this post as far and wide as you can. The more people who see it, the more lives we can save.
Let’s create something good out of this pain.
Let’s make sure Mango is remembered — not just in grief, but in action.
With love,
StraySafe.

Meet Some of our Older cats

Kittens get snapped up in a heartbeat… but older cats? Too often they’re left waiting, watching families walk past their pen.

They may not be tiny anymore, but they have calmer paws, gentler hearts, and so much love to give. 🐾

Please don’t overlook the seniors—they’ve waited long enough for the warm bed they deserve. 💔💛

StraySafe Rescue – Mission Statement

At StraySafe Rescue, our mission is simple: to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome sick, abandoned, and stray cats, giving them the second chances they deserve. But we don’t stop there.

We believe that no cat should feel forgotten, and no cat owner (or future cat owner!) should feel lost when it comes to feline care. That’s why we are dedicated to educating the public on the importance of neutering, vaccinating, and providing proper care for our feline friends. Whether it’s debunking cat myths, answering those quirky questions cat parents have, or sharing fun and fascinating feline facts, we’re here to make learning about cats as enjoyable as living with them.

Our ultimate goal? To create a world where every cat is safe, healthy, and loved. By rescuing those in need and spreading awareness, we aim to reduce the number of unwanted and neglected cats while fostering a more compassionate and informed community.

Stray by name, safe by nature—that’s what we stand for.

The Great Cat Food Mystery: How Does Cats Protection Do It?
We at StraySafe Rescue have just stumbled upon some next-level wizardry, and we need answers.

According to Cats Protection, a £15 donation can feed three cats for 25 days. Yes, you read that right.

Now, we’re not saying they’ve unlocked the secret to infinite cat food, but we’d really, really love to know how. Because over here in the real world, we can feed four cats for about five days on that same amount—and that’s before anyone gets picky about flavors.

Let’s Do Some (Very Painful) Math
At our rescue, feeding costs look a little different:

One adult cat eats 3–4 pouches a day.
That’s 90–120 pouches a month, costing £33.30–£44.40.
Three cats eat 270–360 pouches a month, costing £99.90–£133.20.
Pregnant Mama eats 180–240 pouches a month, costing £66.60–£88.80.
Feeding Mama eats 180–240 pouches a month, costing £66.60–£88.80.
A kitten eats 90–120 pouches a month, costing £33.30–£44.40.
So how exactly is Cats Protection managing to feed three cats for £15?

Cats Protection, Drop Your Secrets
Are their cats on some kind of air diet? Have they mastered the art of photosynthesis? Do they have a direct pipeline to the Royal Canin vault? Because our rescued cats would LOVE to know.

Meanwhile, over at StraySafe Rescue, our reality looks a little different:

Our total food bill sits at £1,531.80–£2,042.40 per month for our 46 cats and kittens.
That doesn’t include vet care, litter, or the soul-crushing experience of opening a fresh pouch only for the cat to sniff it and walk away.
Rescues Need Real Support
Look, we love a good deal, but feeding and caring for cats isn’t cheap. Every donation to an independent rescue goes directly to food, vet care, and supplies—not magic budgeting.

So, if you want to help actual cats get actual meals, please consider donating to StraySafe Rescue. We promise 100% of your donation goes to the cats—and not into whatever alternate reality Cats Protection is living in.

Thank you for supporting real rescue work! And if anyone cracks the £15 cat-feeding code, let us know. We could use the savings.
