Need Help With a Cat?

At StraySafe Rescue, we understand that circumstances can change, and sometimes finding the right help for a cat can feel overwhelming. Whether you have found a stray cat or need to surrender a cat in your care, we will do our best to offer advice and support.

As a small rescue, our available foster spaces are limited and we may not always be able to take a cat into our care immediately. Our waiting list helps us gather the information we need and prioritise cats according to their circumstances and level of need.

If You Have Found a Stray Cat

Before adding a cat to our waiting list, please try to establish whether the cat genuinely has no owner.

If it is safe to do so:

• Ask neighbours if they recognise the cat.
• Check local community and lost-and-found pet groups.
• Take the cat to a local vet or rescue to be scanned for a microchip.
• If you are able, provide temporary access to fresh water, food and a safe, dry place while enquiries are made.

A cat regularly visiting your garden is not necessarily a stray. Some cats travel considerable distances from home and may simply be looking for an extra meal or somewhere comfortable to sleep.

If the cat appears injured, seriously unwell or in immediate danger, please contact a veterinary practice or appropriate animal welfare service as soon as possible rather than waiting for a rescue space.

If You Need to Surrender Your Cat

We understand that there are many reasons why someone may no longer be able to care for their cat. We are here to help without judgement.

Please complete the waiting list form below with as much information as possible about your cat, including their age, temperament, medical history, neutering and vaccination status, and the reason they need a new home.

The more information you can give us, the easier it is for our team to understand your cat’s needs and find the most suitable way to help.

Completing this form does not guarantee an immediate rescue space. StraySafe Rescue is foster-home based, so the number of cats we can take into our care depends on suitable foster spaces becoming available.

Once your form has been submitted, our team will review the information and contact you when we are able to assist.
